Spartan Football 2010 Regular Season

2010 was a near-perfect season for the Spartans.  I agree with the BCS standings.  State has 1 loss along with wisconsin and ohio state to share the Big Ten Conference Championship.  Though State beat wisconsin, we lost to iowa and pretty badly, whom both wisconsin and ohio state beat.

My best moments of the season:
  • MSU beats ND in OT with the "Little Giants" fake fg play
  • MSU beats Wisconsin @ home, was close, but not that close
  • MSU beats the wOLVERINES @ the bIG hOUSE for their 3rd consecutive victory in the series.  wOLVERINES got spanked, coming into the game undefeated.  Silenced all that dENARD for Heisman talk.
  • MSU scores 22 pts in the 4th quarter to defeat purdue on senior day.  I never lost hope but things were looking bleak.  Spartans displayed great resilience that game.
  • MSU wins it's final 3 games after losing @ iowa
  • Greg Jones gets his Big Ten Championship.  He returned for his senior year just for that.  I think he'll go first round in the draft.
  • Mark Dantonio wins Big Ten Coach of the Year
I can't help but to think of 1999.  The Spartans are aligned to play in the Capital One Bowl this year, the same bowl we played in 1999 (was the Citrus Bowl back then).  I was thinking back then the same thing I'm thinking now, we have an outstanding head coach for our program.  Nick Saban was the head coach back then then abruptly left for LSU.  No need to discuss Nick Saban's accolades, but he's got them.  For me, Mark Dantonio is the conintuation of what I thought the Spartan program could be then, today.

I'm excited to see what Spartan football can do in the future especially for the long term.  Next year may not compare to this year, but our program is in prime position to do well in the Big Ten, maybe the top teir of the national rankings.  Pre-Season 2011 top 10/25 for sure with most players returning and good recruiting class.

Go GREEN!

bOISEsTATE @ nevada 2010 the good and the bad of it

So bs lost to nevada in what was dubbed the most important game in nevada football program history. I would go even further and say in all of wac football history.

24 games. I believe it was 3 straight seasons boise st. went undefeated 'till running into the wolf pack (i didn't even know nevada's mascot 'till last night, which goes to show how big this win was for nevada and the wac...well maybe I did. But really was reminded. Jus making a point). Winning that many games for most other teams in other power conferences wouldve been considered utter dominance....but the wac isn't considered a power conference, but maybe now it will be a contending conference. There can never be only 1 team dominating, unless you schedule a hell of a non-conference schedule. Notre dame comes to mind for me. Though being independent, they play an outstanding non-conf schedule. So if they did go undefeated like boise st did, there would be no question or debate of their worthyness to play @ the biggest dance.

To boise st's credit, their non-conf schedule did get tougher, but not tough enough for critics. And the pouting continued for boise st fans. Enough so that everyone outside boise just wanted to see them lose. The biggest claim I heard is, why doesn't anyone of these big conf teams want to come and play on the blue field? Why should and would they. It'd be like umich wolverines travelling to appalacian st to play. I still don't understand how boise st could feel so entitled to play for the national championship. Strength of schedule broncos.

With this nevada victory, it gives the conference some level of credability. now we know boise can be beat within their conference. So if boise st goes undefeated again like they did (which they won't), they would get more support for their bids for the national championship game.

Well those are my thought on that for now. Its a little early for me so I'm going back to bed.

Peace

Happy Thanksgiving Yo!

Yes, that is a random picture.  I was going to throw up a picture of a turkey, but hey whatever.

Watching the America's Thanksgiving Parade on WDIV Detroit.  84th annual.  I tell you what, Carmen is a cheeseball.  Detroit's parade is older than the NY city parade.  I googled who has the oldest Thanksgiving parade, turns out it's Philly.

Noon will roll up and I will watch the Lions lose to the Patriots, another Thanksgiving day tradition.  Sorry ass Lions.

I think the most exciting part of Thanksgiving is the kickoff of the Christmas season tomorrow with black friday.  hooray for that, hooray for Christmas.

Big weekend of college football this week.  Auburn will play @ Alabama, Boise St. will play @ Nevada.  MSU will play at pENN st., and finally and least, uMICH will get their ass kicked in Columbus.

Happy thanksgiving you.

Peace

My thoughts on today's big ten games

So msu scored 22 pts in the 4th to defeat purdue on senior day @ spartan stadium. The comeback was great, but what about the first 3 quarters? And the go ahead td, lucky we recovered that fumble by cousins. I tell you this, playing penn st @ happy valley is gonna be a huge task. And I've read it might be joe pa's last game, so psu is gonna be playing with emotion.

I believe the issue really lies with cousins. When he threw that pick, his confidence really dropped. I think he needs to deal with mistakes better. He'll be back a senior next year. However the season may end, I'm sure he will mature in the off-season, and come back a smarter, experienced decision maker. Maybe it's the play calling too... going too safe, but I'm no coach so maybe that is the right move to get momentum back and open it up later in the game. I really like the 5 reciever shotgun set/empty backfield for shorter yardage plays. Cousins does better with more options imo.

Now with all that being said, a win is a win, and this team knows how to win. Cousins did come alive in the 4th and made some great passes. The blocked punt displayed resilience and determination.

Now with purdue returning punts like they were, why not kick to the sidelines? Just a side thought that popped in my head. Without special teams getting good field position, purdue wasn't doin' sish.

Now looking forward... Osu will not lose to the wolverines @ the horseshoe. Wisconsin is playing a nw team without persa. Who knows though, that osu-um rivalry, wolverines may pull it off, but unlikely. Different program under rodriguez. 0 wins against ranked opponents. I'm glad I'm not a present day wolverine fan. Be looking too much in the past for comfort. But hey, they are the wolverines, and part of the big ten. They will not die off. (see wolverine fans, that's a classy way of dissin' a team. Y'all never giving credit where credit is due. Really, it stems from lloyd carr imo. But he was a winner, so whatever.) Know this, the recruiting pool is getting bigger with talent, so teams are getting better as a whole. Coaching is where winners will be distinguished. Always has been, but I believe past wolverine teams were special because of individual playmakers. Special teams and defense (howard and woodsen.) Heisman winners, individual talent along with great
coaching. Sorry, rodriguez and company sucks.

Enough about the wolverines, psu is gonna be a tough game. I hope the team shows up 'cause that iowa game was such a dissapointment (both big road games). We shall see.

A special year for the spartans. And dantonio is not going anywhere.

Penn state is no joke. Our offense really needs to show up, running and passing, and the oline better be pumped.

So if state beats psu, and the wolverines somehow beat osu @ the hshoe, we're going to the rose bowl. The realist in me says, no way osu is losing. But I can hope. As long as the spartans take care of business, it will be a successful campaign for 2010.

Go msu basketball too!

Seinfeld, the show, most used phrases

So i've been watching seinfeld for a while. Phrases that I always seem to hear...

i'm kinda in the middle of something here

wait, i see what's going on here

don't you see whats going on here

My Big Ten FBS Outlook, 11.18.2010

So pURDUE is visiting E.Lansing. I watched some of the mICHIGAN/pURDUE game and pURDUE is undersized. This game should be a rout. 33-9. Keyshawn is coming back for this game. He is an important part of special teams/offense.

wISCONSIN is visiting mICHIGAN. I think this one will be close. wISCONSIN will come off that 80+ pt game soft. robinson will probably have a good game, he's a little overdue. robinson throwing too many picks, he must be getting some guidance on that from the coaches. he gets his passing game down, will open the d for him to run. close, but wISCONSIN by 3.

oHIO state is visiting iOWA. This one is hard to call. But I like iOWA @ home. This one could go either way, but my hope is that iOWA pulls off the win. iOWA came off the wISCONSIN loss strong, can they do it again this week?

Mike's eBay listing of the week

So Mike has decided to sell an item a week on eBay. Actually, my sister has inspired me after seeing her listing.

I've sold on eBay before, and trust me, those eBay and PayPal fees suck pee pee. I sometimes wonder how those eBay retailers even make money.

It can't be a bad thing pulling in extra money, even if it may be a loss.

MSU on bye; my upset pick

I think iowa will lose @ northwestern. I'm calling this based on the near win iowa got @ indiana. And nw plays that wildcat offense. Could be an interesting game.

Let's see what happens.

12-21-2012 : Like 2000 hysteria, or could it be the real deal?

Beauty of this, it's right around the corner.

MSU Football Recruiting 2011

http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Lawrence-Thomas-92733

http://rivals.yahoo.com/michiganstate/football/recruiting/player-DeAnthony-Arnett-95912

The top 2 in state recruits.  Thomas is a 5 star recruit LB, a perfect replacement for Greg Jones.

The future looks bright for MSU football when we can grab top in-state recruits over mICHIGAN.

Actually Arnett is making his decision soon.  Thomas is a strong verbal commit.  We shall see if they sign.  They are kids after all.

The Other Guys

So I'm watching this as I write this, kinda dragging out for me.  The humor is funny, but not enough to keep my attention completely.

I'm bored.  I'm gonna finish this movie later.

Rihanna - Loud

I just finished listening to this album.  Definitely a female perspective.  Same "Rihanna" style, but also some songs have a trance feel to them also.  Complicated is like that, and of course Only Girl which was already released.

The hook from Cheers, I'm trying to remember where that's from.  Yeah-e-yeah.   Hmmmm.

It's alright.

S&M, Cheers I think will make the charts.  I'll be curious as to Lie II will do.  I don't remember too many sequel songs.  I think Jay-Z did a few.  Dead presidents if I'm not mistaken.

2010 FBS: My thoughts 11-8-2010

(from mobile)

another week has gone by. Spartans played to expectations. mICHIGAN is going to the Motor City Bowl. BCS Championship Game will be Oregon and TCU. TCU with a key win vs. Utah. Auburn will lose @ Alabama.

Oregon will win the National Championship. Go figure. I remember 1 year a while back, those ducks came to Spartan Stadium and we killed them. So I guess, Ducks as National Champions, that'd be cool.

Spartan Football #10 in the nation. Woo hoo.

Manny Pacquiao - 60 Minutes CBS

Cool Pac-Man is getting recognition on a classier scale. When Roach says he's worried, makes me worry. Margarito is a matchup nightmare. I guess as long as his hands aren't covered with anything illegal (which he got caught on, i believe that is the reason vegas won't grant him a fight) should be a fair fight.

Excited about this one. Can Pacquiao rise above doubts, again? We'll see sat night.

Edison Pena - NY Marathon 2010; He Did Finish, good for him!

2010, mINNESOTA @ MSU FBS, big ten lookout

This game should be an ass whopin'.  Playing @ home vs. a 8 straight loss team in mINNESOTA, and after a lack luster performance @ iOWA, my prediction is 42-10.

If this game is anything to close, I will be disappointed.

Lets see what happens.

GO STATE!

-------------------------------------------------------------------
(heres a hypothetical)
so oHIO sTATE has to play iOWA @ iOWA.
oHIO sTATE beats iOWA.
iOWA has 2 conference losses, out
MSU wins out
MSU has beaten wISCONSIN who beat oHIO sTATE (all 3 teams have 1 conference loss)
I believe MSU will be given a rose bowl bid.  Now I'm not sure on this, but I think, maybe hope.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Super Side Note:
I had a chance to catch the pre-season opener on tv of the MSU basketball team @ the Breslin vs. Saginaw Valley State.  Man, team looks solid.  #2 pre-season... nice.

It's a great time for Spartan athletics today... and tomorrow looks promising as well.  Yesterday, yeah, that's history.

Now the Pistons, they're the new Lions.  Geez!!!

The manager's name is David.  They do not have ketchup today.  If he says otherwise, I have a recorded phone call and video of them acknowledging that they didn't have ketchup.
