So msu scored 22 pts in the 4th to defeat purdue on senior day @ spartan stadium. The comeback was great, but what about the first 3 quarters? And the go ahead td, lucky we recovered that fumble by cousins. I tell you this, playing penn st @ happy valley is gonna be a huge task. And I've read it might be joe pa's last game, so psu is gonna be playing with emotion.
I believe the issue really lies with cousins. When he threw that pick, his confidence really dropped. I think he needs to deal with mistakes better. He'll be back a senior next year. However the season may end, I'm sure he will mature in the off-season, and come back a smarter, experienced decision maker. Maybe it's the play calling too... going too safe, but I'm no coach so maybe that is the right move to get momentum back and open it up later in the game. I really like the 5 reciever shotgun set/empty backfield for shorter yardage plays. Cousins does better with more options imo.
Now with all that being said, a win is a win, and this team knows how to win. Cousins did come alive in the 4th and made some great passes. The blocked punt displayed resilience and determination.
Now with purdue returning punts like they were, why not kick to the sidelines? Just a side thought that popped in my head. Without special teams getting good field position, purdue wasn't doin' sish.
Now looking forward... Osu will not lose to the wolverines @ the horseshoe. Wisconsin is playing a nw team without persa. Who knows though, that osu-um rivalry, wolverines may pull it off, but unlikely. Different program under rodriguez. 0 wins against ranked opponents. I'm glad I'm not a present day wolverine fan. Be looking too much in the past for comfort. But hey, they are the wolverines, and part of the big ten. They will not die off. (see wolverine fans, that's a classy way of dissin' a team. Y'all never giving credit where credit is due. Really, it stems from lloyd carr imo. But he was a winner, so whatever.) Know this, the recruiting pool is getting bigger with talent, so teams are getting better as a whole. Coaching is where winners will be distinguished. Always has been, but I believe past wolverine teams were special because of individual playmakers. Special teams and defense (howard and woodsen.) Heisman winners, individual talent along with great
coaching. Sorry, rodriguez and company sucks.
Enough about the wolverines, psu is gonna be a tough game. I hope the team shows up 'cause that iowa game was such a dissapointment (both big road games). We shall see.
A special year for the spartans. And dantonio is not going anywhere.
Penn state is no joke. Our offense really needs to show up, running and passing, and the oline better be pumped.
So if state beats psu, and the wolverines somehow beat osu @ the hshoe, we're going to the rose bowl. The realist in me says, no way osu is losing. But I can hope. As long as the spartans take care of business, it will be a successful campaign for 2010.
Go msu basketball too!
